Good morning, Sir. (Please excuse the address if it is inadequate and allow me the privilege of knowing the proper term.) i hope You will find it agreeable for me to “speak my mind” here, as i do so much better in writing. i mean no disrespect by my boldness; i felt it only fair to tell you why i must turn away Your generous offer to pursue something together.

Meeting You Saturday night was exhilarating and terrifying. You don’t need this humble boy to inform You of the reputation that precedes You in the inner circles of New York’s BDSM underground. Any submissive would be most fortunate to find himself under Your hand or even across from You at dinner. i was further honored by Your attention and Your request to dance for You. It was a thrill, and one i will not soon forget—if ever. Your kindness in permitting me my pleasure is very greatly appreciated by this humble would-be servant though i am compelled to admit i was unable to carry out Your parting offer.

Sir, as You can see, the hour is young. i’ve spent another sleepless night, one of deep introspection and painful wrestling with my truths, only to arrive at the conclusion that breaks my heart and spirit: i find myself most unworthy of Your attentions. While Your offer to “pursue something” together is most gracious, i’m unable to provide what You need.

You are not a man i could disappoint.

Please accept my humble apologies.

Merry Christmas.

Most sincerely,
dane

Dane Carmichael.

My heart tumbles. The boy may be mute, but he possesses an eloquence and humility that awaken me on so many levels. I’m not surprised in the slightest by his reluctance, nor am I the least bit deterred. The poor boy has been stewing, and he needs a swift response. I step into the hot stream of the shower, hoping the right words will find me.

Good morning, Dane. While your salutation is perfect and your “boldness” (I’d term it “honesty”) pleases me greatly, your conclusion is premature. (I shall leave the obvious pun for another day.) Your agitation of spirit mirrors my own. Since meeting you, I’ve slept little and spent precious few conscious thoughts that weren’t soon interrupted by the memory of your eyes falling away from mine that first time. When you question your ability to “provide what I need,” please know that you may have already done so.

How I long to have you “under my hand” in the privacy of my dungeon, where we can explore your inability to feel worthy of the joy I see inside you. The only way you could disappoint me is to fail to give me that chance.

I’d like you to fill out this submissive checklist for me (see link below) as completely and as candidly as you’re able so I can understand your history and your limits. Please feel free to editorialize in the comments sections or embellish in your return e-mail. Tell me everything, and I promise to take very good care of you.

Don’t forget to check my references.

We have much to offer each other, Dane.

Warmly,
Marcus

Don’t keep me waiting, Dane.

Sir:

Thank You for Your many reassurances. It seems we have been not sleeping together!

As for the reference checks, Your name is its own good word, and Edward has spoken highly of Your talent and compassion. i will complete my checklist for You.

If You would have me after reviewing my extensive limitations, i entrust myself to You.

yours (perhaps),
dane

You can imagine how much fun I had with spell check on this one! Dane's old school in his respect. Apparently, still waters run deep! So...Dane's checklist...*bites nails* See you?

I forgot to mention earlier the title of this story was a beautiful idea from chayasara. Picture your favorite record album, an old classic, brought into the studio and reworked, enhanced, attuned to modern technology. Remastered. See how smart she is? ;) MWAH!

  3. OKAY! Review take 3. I swear Blogger HATES ME!

Dane, Dane, Dane....his first email gutted me. He is sooooo sure he can't please Marcus before even trying. The fact that he has lost sleep and labored over his decision speaks to a lot of his issues, I'm sure. I loved how old school he was in his usage of capitalization of any reference to Marcus and his lower case use in regards to himself. A very proper sub attitude.

Marcus is such a wonderful and stubborn man. So happy he didn't take Dane's initial response as his last. He's going to push and see what transpires every time, which is the point, I suppose but also something Dane needs. Push him slowly until he understands that regardless of his past he CAN serve Marcus in a manner the Master deserves. *sigh*

Favorite line...How I long to have you “under my hand” in the privacy of my dungeon, where we can explore your inability to feel worthy of the joy I see inside you. ... I whimpered "oooookaaaaaay". Seriously, this man needs to understand what he does to me. I'd go so far as to consider myself a card carrying member of his fan club if only he'd send me a damn card to carry. *collapses into couch in dramatic fashion*

As I'm in the mood to confess at least one thing today I will tell you that I've re-read each chapter 2...FINE..3 times. THAT'S ALL I SWEAR! *looks up to see if lightening is headed this way*

    xoxo

    1. Now you know Dane is a TRUE sub, not just by nature but by training. Ahhh, YES! Already you're seeing and understanding (!) how Marcus will be with him, even when they're not together (yet). LOL on your dramatic collapsing! LOVE YOU! Thank you for loving my characters. MWAH!

  4. I'm loving the respect and honor that Dane has for Marcus already (he is i and dane, Marcus is You, Your, and of course, Sir). Love the way you did that, b..
Can't wait to see that checklist!!!
    Respectfully yours, ellie xo. :)

  5. OH god, my heart clenched a bit, when Dane was saying he couldn't accept (though really, how could he not???), just because he feels he isn't "enough" for Marcus! :(

I loved this: "How I long to have you “under my hand” in the privacy of my dungeon, where we can explore your inability to feel worthy of the joy I see inside you. The only way you could disappoint me is to fail to give me that chance."

I love how much of a 180 Dane's attitude does after one promising e-mail from Marcus. he just needed a little push (spank? ;) ) in the right direction.

I'm gonna second Shell's request for the checklist! :)

I think chayasara's idea for the title was very fitting. can't wait to see Marcus "reworked, enhanced, attuned to modern technology." lol

and i really can't wait to see more of Dane's personality come out. loving it!

    1. Mmm, yes, even with that one small word of encouragement, Dane has changed his course. Imagine what Master can do for him! And vice versa?

So happy this moved you, Digi!

  6. So we have a very "sweet" beginning. Love it. I hope we have a ton of romance about to break out in the ole dungeon. Thanks, once more, you, my dear, do not disappoint. Looking forward to the "check list" comparison. That is coming, right?

  7. Oh, sweet Dane! Do they need a hugger in the dungeon? Because I volunteer to give that boy hugs and comfort whenever he needs it (in a non-sexual way). He is quite eloquent for someone so young- and a bit of cheeky sense of humor, yes, with "It seems we have been not sleeping together!"
Please tell me we're going to be privy to his checklist? Please oh please oh please oh please with pumpkin-headed llamas on top?

    1. Pumpkin headed llamas did the trick, Cappy! Yeah, you've got Dane pegged. He is eloquent! :)
You'll definitely get the gist of the boy's checklist.

  8. While I am also excited to see where these two are heading, I am also excited to see where Dane has been. To see what made him the man he is. Marcus is going to have to be on top of his game, while falling in love. Going to be exciting to watch how this plays out.

  9. Interesting how Dane wrote the email. Carefully using lowercase letters when referring to himself and capitalizing any references to Marcus. I have to say that it did not surprise me that he did not take or could not take Marcus up on his "parting gift." I would think that Dane would have a serious case of "nerves" as it were. *giggles*

  10. Dane is a good sub by not only using lowercase i, but also not capitalizing his own name. Best line this chapter: The only way you could disappoint me is to fail to give me that chance. My heart tugged in wanting these two to be together.

  11. Thank goodness Marcus didn't take the first email lying down. The moment he confessed his lack of sleep to Dane, things changed. Gahhhh I love the exchanges between these two already, the cannot wait to see how they connect when they finally get to that dungeon :D

  12. you're giving us that checklist soon, right? it's telling the way dane both starts his sentences and his name with lower case letters and when referring to Marcus, uses upper case even on the word "You". Can't wait for more....oh, wait, I don't yet have to wait!

  13. Aww, glad it didn't take too much convincing,

  15. My first thought was poetry by e e cummings. So appropriate on many levels. The feels in this chapter! My heart was aching. When they finally get together in person it may explode.

I'm glad ST has a sense of humor. I really want a conversation with ST and Edward, or Sean, or Bella, or Riley. Ok, I want more Dane.

    1. You're not so far off with e.e. cummings, but Dane's using the very traditional, very formal and respectful forms of address.
Please don't let your heart explode. I need you to keep reading! :)
Love your nickname for my guy. More Dane? Hey, honey, I've got nearly 150K of the boy. Enjoy!

  17. Can I just say how much I loveeee that Dane types/refers to himself in lowere case (me, i, dane) and the refers to Marcus in uppercase (You, Your)... Giving himself to Marcus so so easily. I think it's already a part of his mind that he'd love to belong to this man. But wat ever he's been scarred by in the past is making him doubt/limit/deny himself.

But Marcus wants him sooooo bad. Love how he so easily slipped the checklist in there. No way was he letting his sub boy turn away without fully understanding what he was in for. One of the true makings of a good Dom is having your potential sub know exactly what he/she is getting into, prior to making ANY decision about the situation. Whether it's acceptacne or rejection.

Absolutely adore Dane signing his last email, "Yours (perhaps)," He's already in. I think he just needed to finally see someone fight to have him.

    1. Interesting your comment about limiting, denying, doubting...absolutely, but in this realm of lower case, I see Dane as the perfectly trained, uber respectful sub. I LOVE the last line of your review. Perfection.

  18. i loved dane's email! like marcus says, he's quite eloquent and very well spoken in writtten form. it's reassuring knowing that he's comfortable expressing himself by writing. i hope marcus makes him keep a journal! :) and it's pretty clear from that email that dane lives, or has lived, the lifestyle. so very respectful.

lol, i knew marcus wasn't going to take no for an answer. he replied perfectly too. my god, i can't wait to see them in the dungeon together. and dane's checklist, can't wait to see it! :D

    1. I really enjoyed the dichotomy of written Dane vs in person Dane, giving him a chance to really shine without fear of rejection or pressure of conversation. Thank you for noticing the difference. As for that journal, you'll see a slightly different twist on it in this story. Oh Marcus would have had to respect Dane if he really said no but no didn't really mean no here, just not ready yet. Thanks so much for your review!
